Maize, Potato, MPB, Tomato Centralised Contract Farming Model
If the company has seed (e.g. MPB, seed potato) it will provide a seed loan which is deducted from the delivered produce. All other inputs are either self-financed, of funded through a FI which usually require off-take agreements. Banks also have technical staff that visit the farm.
The extension support team provides soil management advice, crop assessment farm visits, agronomic advice on production encompassing nutrition/spraying programmes, irrigation management and post harvest handling. Where possible visits are done every second week.
Cairns will collect produce. Alternatively, if farmers have transport, they can deliver to the factory.
